After releasing details of its test network competition several days ago, Filecoin’s business development staff, Angie Maguire, said the project’s main network is up and running for this summer.
„Filecoin’s mainnet is on its way to our July 20-August 20 launch window,“ Maguire told Cointelegraph in a June 10 e-mail, pointing out the project’s roadmap.

Filecoin will hold a test network competition, starting soon
Filecoin, a blockchain-based data storage project, announced its next test network competition on June 10, prior to its upcoming main network launch.
In order to solve network problems before the launch of the main network, the test network competition rewards the 100 best miners in the world, taking into account the storage that each one puts into the ecosystem. The best miners from each continent also win prizes.

„We will confirm the exact start date when we set the launch date, but the competition can start as early as the beginning of July,“ said Maguire.
The competition has attracted the interest of the community
The community is interested in the concept of the competition, Bitcoin Evolution confirmed. „We’ve been getting very positive feedback from our global mining community and we’ll be hosting a live Q&A later this month to make sure everyone is well prepared for the competition.“

Indicating the source of inspiration for the competition, Maguire explained:
„Incentive-based test networks have become a best practice to help users prepare for the launch of new channels. We reviewed many test network incentive programs and combined the best elements with some unique features of Filecoin such as real user data storage.
Filecoin’s project has been underway for years, after raising USD 257 million during its initial coin offering in 2017.
